PLA is not plastic. It originates from nature, starch extracted from corn, cassava and other plants, through microbial fermentation to produce lactic acid, lactic acid through advanced polymerization process, to produce a new polymer material – polylactic acid (PLA). Products made from this material, if discarded in compost conditions, can be completely decomposed by microorganisms to produce carbon dioxide and water, and returned to nature.
